The Department of Chemistry at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore organized a Seminar on International Day of Women and Girls in Science at Seminar Hall, Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Engineering on 16th February 2023. The theme of seminar was to highlight the role of women in science as agents of change to accelerate progress towards the achievement of SDGs. Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore graced the event as chief guest. Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, (Director & Professor, CASP, Government College University Lahore) and Prof. Dr. Sammia Shahid (Dean Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), Chairperson Research Grant Committee, University of Management Science and Technology Lahore), were invited as Guest of honors.  Prof. Dr. Farhat Yasmeen (Chairperson Department of Chemistry) was patron and Dr. Iqra Muneer (Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry) was organizer. This seminar was attended by students of Ph.D., M.Phil., and B.Sc. Hons. from various departments of University. Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar lauded the initiative taken by the department. He highlighted the achievements of female scientist in the field of Computer Science and Space Science by giving examples of Ada Lovelace and Katherine Johnson. Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir shed light on the importance of Women and Girls in with science and explained the Butterfly theory that how a minute localized change in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere. Prof Dr Sammia Shahid motivate the audience by sharing her struggles to achieve the present status and discussed the common international problems faced by women throughout the world. Prof. Dr. Farhat Yasmeen, during her address emphasized the need of women in science with the slogan “Science need women and women need science because women have power to change the world”. In the end she thanked the chief guest and guest speaker for the shared knowledge.  After the talks the guest were presented with the Shields and Bouquet as a token of appreciation.
