UET Participated in Integrated Planning Training under USAID HESSA Program

Integrated Strategic Planning is a need of the day especially in higher education sector of Pakistan to ensure institutions’ sustainability and growth. Emphasizing the same, USAID under its Higher Education System Strengthening Activity (HESSA) program, organized a Two-Day Training Workshop for 16 nation-wide partner universities on Integrated Strategic Planning in HEIs on 26-27 October at Marriott Hotel, Islamabad. The training program draws on the knowledge base developed by the Society of College and University Planners (SCUP), USA, in order to develop strategic business plans for partner universities to ensure university level sustainability. A three-members team from UET Lahore comprising Prof. Dr. Shahid Rafique (Dean NSH& Is.), Prof. Dr. Noor Muhammad (Director FA&CS) and Prof. Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser (DSA) participated in the training. Earlier, a Two-Day training on the same topic was also organized for Vice-Chancellors of HESSA partner universities where Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Habib-Ur-Rehman represented UET Lahore. This initial training would be complemented with a week-long extensive training for university planners in December 2023.  Prof. Ray White, Director of System Strategic Planning for Washington State University (WSU), USA, and Dr. Michael Barber, Principal Investigator HESSA, Professor and Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CvEEN) at the University of Utah, USA, were the resource persons whereas Prof. Dr, Aslam Chaudary (Utah), Chief of Party for HESSA, and Dr. Aeysha Razzaq, Deputy Chief of Party, also spoke on the occasion. The training covered all aspects of Integrated Planning (IP) including elements of IP, hierarchical framework, stakeholders’ involvement and incorporating current trends in planning, strategic planning processes including planning inventories, internal and external evaluation, strategic alternatives, (SCUP) framework, vertical and horizontal integrated planning. The senior representative from HESSA partner universities; Fatima Jinnah Women University, NUST, IBA Karachi, Lahore College for Women University, Mirpur University of Science and Technology, University of Peshawar, Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University, Karakoram International University, Women University Swabi, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, Peoples University of Medical Sciences, BUITEMS Quetta, Sindh Agriculture University, NUTECH and University of Swat also attended the training.
