Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), at the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore Pakistan organized a one-day training entitled “drafting and filing of patents” for faculty members at VC conference room on April 24, 2025. The objective of the workshop was to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively navigate the patent application process, protect their intellectual property, and enforce their IP rights.

The workshop was attended by 30 faculty members from various departments and sub-campuses of UET. Ms. Shakra Khurshid, was the resource person. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Rafiq (Director ORIC) presented the welcoming note and highlighted the importance of the theme. He gave detailed introduction about ORIC services towards the advancement of research culture in the University including protecting UET-IP and expressed his gratitude towards resource person and worthy Vice Chancellor for the initiative.

Ms. Shakra Khurshid discussed the patent law and process of registration of patents followed by the question-answer session. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir also graced the occasion and concluded the session with an emphasis on protecting IP by faculty members. He highlighted that faculty innovators can play a pivotal step towards Pakistan’s knowledge economy initiative. Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir appreciated the efforts of Director ORIC for organizing training activities and asked the office to hold similar events in future in order to facilitate the faculty members and research scholars. The event ended with shield and certificates distribution among the resource person and the participants.
