SWE (Society of women Engineers), UET Lahore organised a school visit for Secondary grade students to have an insight on Engineering disciplines being offered at University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. The purpose of this activity arranged was not only letting the young minds explore the roots of engineering but also to give them an opportunity to question and experience the designed experiments planned for them.
Starting with a visit of National Science Museum, engineering labs, presentations on different engineering disciplines, STEM, fun quizzes and an interactive session with engineering students/faculty to innovative experimental designs, the activity arranged was quite a success. Young minds not only explored the vast field of engineering but also had a fun interaction with our senior year engineering students who arrange interesting science experiments for them. Students were fascinated to see the effort, their brilliance was awarded with gifts and refreshments at the end arranged. More than 100 girls and 30 boys attended the event.
SPACE Student Chapter at Chemical Engineering Department greatly participated in promoting the objective of “ SWE in Pakistan” for attracting young minds towards STEM education. This not only opened up the opportunities for them to have an on hands experience of engineering disciplines within the university but also encouraged them to engage and interact with the senior year Engineering students.
The purpose of Not-for-profit Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at the University of Engineering & Technology is to guide young women engineers for professional engineers as well as attracting more females towards Engineering education. So that they can contribute effectively for the progression of the country.
Engineering has been considered male dominating field in Pakistan. Therefore, girls are discouraged to take engineering education from childhood from family, schools and teachers. This program is designed to encourage young girls to take up the engineering education and be women future leaders in engineering. Motivating young school girls to take up STEM studies is one of the most important aspect of keeping women representation in this technology era.
