The 36th meeting of UET Senate

Lahore ( ) Almost 363 research publication were done only in 6months. While record 708 pubkictaions had published last year, pension fund was established and expansion of investment of proceeds endowment to the tune of rs 578 million was made Meanwhile the university had releases more then 3 thousand eight point 852 millions for research grant and it increase average 8%yearly. Last year, 17 researchers from the university participated in international conferences held in different countries and presented their research papers, while the university also hosted two international conferences. This year, the university awarded scholarships to 5,020 students worth Rs 423 billion. These figures were presented at the 36th Annual Meeting of the UET Senate. The 36th Annual Meeting of the Senate of UET was chaired by Chancellor/Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar. In which Vice Chancellor UET Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar presented the annual report of the university. The budget was also approved in the meeting. For improvement in the rules and regulations of Professor emirates' appointment and technical and non-technical staff the statue was also approved. At this occasion, Vice Chancellor UET also expressed his commitment to convene the Senate twice a year. Two members of the Senate were later elected to the syndicate. 
Addressing the meeting, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar lauded the progress of the university during the Corona epidemic. The Governor Punjab further said that in line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, reforms are being brought in the universities of Punjab. Many issues of the university are affected due to which there is academic loss of students which cannot be tolerated. The Governor Punjab said that all the vacancies in UET Lahore should be filled as soon as possible and permanent appointments should be made instead of contract ones. He said, The Vice Chancellors had been appointed on merit and now it is their duty to eradicate the culture of reference based appointments. Strict action will be taken against any illegal act. Later, while talking to the media, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said that we have completely eliminated political interference in all government institutions including universities as not only institutions are destroyed but also the people are severely harmed due to political interference. The steps being taken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan to strengthen the institutions are unprecedented in the past. With the strengthening of the institutions, Pakistan will be stronger and the problems of the people will be solved completely. The Senate meeting was attended by members of syndicate, Deans, Chairpersons, Professors and other members. Registrar UET Muhammad Asif played his role as Senate secretory. The elections for the selection of 2 members of senate were also held after the meeting,Prof Dr Tauseef Aizid from Mechanical Engineering Department got 75 votes, Prof Dr Farhat Yasmeen from chemistry department got 73 vote and become the member. While their opponents Prof Dr Saima Yasin from Chemical Engineering Department got 61 votes and Prof Dr Ammad Hassan Khan, from Transportation Engineering Department got 59 votes.
