Newly appointed Vice Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore assumed the charge today. In pursuant to the recommendations submitted by the Search Committee constituted vide Higher Education Department and in compliance of the decision of Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan given on 22.04.2018 in HRC No. 13865-P/2018, the Governor/Chancellor UET Lahore Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has appointed Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, as the 16th Vice Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore for a period of four years. A notification No. SO(Univ.)17-1/2019 to this effect has been issued by the Higher Education Department (HED) Government of Punjab on Monday 24.06.2019. Former acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aziz Akbar congratulated him for his joining in the varsity and handed over the charge to Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar.
With the degree of B. Sc in Electrical Engineering from UET Lahore in 1981, he got Masters degree and PhD in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa USA in in 1985 and 1988 respectively. Earlier he had completed his intermediate from Government College Lahore. He has 31 years of teaching experience in renowned universities of America, Kuwait and Pakistan. He has served as Principal of Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) for more than 12 years retired in 2018. In addition to his duties as Principal PUCIT, he also served as Director of Institute of Business and Information Technology (IBIT) Punjab University. From 2005 to 2006 he served as Professor, Head of Computer Science Department and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies, School of Science and Technology at University of Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore. From 2003 to 2004 he served the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) as a Professor and Head of Computer Science Department. He has also served the University of Portland EECS faculty and Kuwait University for more than 11 years. He further served as Area Chair, Computer Science, Pak-American Institute of Management Sciences, Lahore. Before this he was providing his services as Assistant Professor at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum, Kuwait University. From 1984 to 1988 he served as Research and Teaching Assistant at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa and 1983 to 1984 as Teaching Assistant/Grader at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is also an Alumnus of UET and served UET as Lecturer at Department of Electrical Engineering. He started his career as Software Engineering Intern, Systems Limited, Lahore, Pakistan.
He was warmly received by the faculty members and administration of university at Vice Chancellor’s Office. All Deans and Chairmen greeted the newly appointed Vice Chancellor at his office and extended full support to him. Talking to Deans, Chairmen, Faculty and Officers of the University, he said that it is an honor for him to be the Vice Chancellor of the oldest and one of the most prestigious and pioneering Engineering institutions of Pakistan. Further he said he would put in his best efforts to improve UET’s educational environment. He also said that Research, development, academic excellence and serving the UET community is among his topmost priorities. Untiring efforts will be made in facilitating the students and promoting research culture”.
