Three-Day International Symposium “CoDE: Computational Design and Embedded Intelligence” at UET Lahore

The Department of Architecture at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore hosted a groundbreaking three-day international symposium titled CoDE: Computational Design and Embedded Intelligence, from 16th to 18th April 2025. The symposium was organized by Ar. Quratulain Asghar and Ar. Fatima Javeed, in collaboration with the student body Archi Hub.
This unique event brought together architects, designers, researchers, and students from around the world to explore the rapidly evolving intersection of computational design, artificial intelligence, and architecture. Through a series of insightful lectures, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and exhibitions, CoDE provided a platform to discuss emerging technologies and their transformative impact on architectural practice and education.

The closing ceremony was graced by the PRO vice Chancellor UET Lahore Dr Nasir Hayat and Chairperson of the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP), who commended the organizers for their forward-thinking initiative. During the ceremony, he distributed certificates to the participants and emphasized the critical need to revise the architectural curriculum in Pakistan to reflect STEM-based approaches, integrating
science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to design buildings that are safe, efficient, and inspiring. By using math and physics, architects ensure structural integrity and material optimization; digital tools like BIM, parametric software, and simulations boost design performance and sustainability; engineering expertise integrates complex systems (HVAC, lighting, acoustics); and materials science drives innovations in façades and adaptive structures. Together, this STEM-driven methodology delivers healthier, more resilient built environments that meet modern social and environmental challenges.
The symposium was praised for its futuristic vision, interdisciplinary discourse, and for fostering innovation among young designers. Events like CoDE are a testament to UET Lahore’s commitment to staying at the forefront of architectural education and technological advancement.
